It seems our efforts are starting to pay off! ECI has been working with Mason 3 times a month, and we have been seeing a Speech Therapist who works with his speech as well as some OT - and we do that once a week. Each week they work on getting Mason to use his words to express what he wants. Sometimes he gets very frustrated, but in the end, he'll say it. He's a little stubborn that way!
So far, Mason has said the following words: Mama, bye-bye, Bubba (for Wesley), Dada, kitty, more, up, two, thank you, paper, poop, four, monkey, juice, Momo, Whamie, Pepaw, book, hat, big boy, diaper, truck, cool, go, car, moo, quack, baa, bear, baby, block, teddy, shoe, no. Some words he'll say on his own, and others he's gotten really good about repeating you - which is something we work with him on daily.
He's also gotten very independant. He likes to dress himself, and you can often find him wearing his shorts backwards. One day he took after I'd gotten his pajama top on him, he took another pajama top and put it on his feet so that he had the neck around his belly like a skirt. He seems to try to put shirts on his bottom half. He also likes to wear the "big boy diapers" just because he can put them on himself, almost. He has trouble getting them over his bottom! He is always putting things in the trash (actual trash, not anything else thankfully), moving chairs anywhere he can so he can climb on them to get higher. This has been a real challenge for me because my purse used to be safe up on the kitchen counter. Oh no. And he doesn't just take everything out of the purse - every single business card has to come out of the wallet, but then he'll stick it all back in when he's done, just not exactly where they belong. He still chooses to run places instead of walking, and if he's really excited he'll actually do this little gallop. And when it's quiet and calm, he'll come over and give Mommy kisses.
